The opening game of the FAWNL season in the Midlands Division One, saw Adrian Clements, Leafield Athletic team come to visit Grange Park.
A nice day saw the crowd return in too see what Long Eaton had been working on in preseason towards the brand new season.
The game got underway with Long Eaton on top in parts but Leafield defending well at the back when Long Eaton were trying to get in behind them. It wasn't until the 14th minute when Jordan Atkin drove forward before picking out Jess Munn who took a touch and rolled it back to Lauren Da'Casto who calmly finished into the bottom corner giving Long Eaton the 1-0 lead.
A stoppage in the game came when Kelly Kennaugh and Lexie Spokes collided with each other needing both players to be replaced. Hopefully both will recover well and soon. It saw Anya-Mae Cresswell and Lucy Johnstone come onto the pitch.
It remained 1-0 until the half time whistle with Long Eaton struggling to find any real rhythm but the threat was always there. Who else but Captain Millie Fugler that secured the 3 points late on in the game after a battling second half. Millie Fugler stepped over the free kick and placed it perfectly to score her third free kick in two games. With the final 6-7 minutes left Long Eaton had a 2-0 lead.
But it wasn't over then as Lucy Johnstone dropped her shoulder and took aim as she hit a wonderful strike to give Long Eaton a 3-0 lead. Before Millie Fugler became provider on the 4th goal as she floated her free kick in catching the Leafield defence out as Cala Thornton slotted the ball home to make it 4-0 to Long Eaton.
The final whistle went with Long Eaton being well deserved winners but Leafield Athletic made it hard at times for Long Eaton to break through the defensive line. We next play on Sunday 22nd away to Wem Town.
