Rod Orlando-Young bagged a brace as Long Eaton United advanced to the First Round Qualifying of the Emirates FA Cup with a strong win against Quorn at Grange Park.

Paddy Webb gave the visitors an early lead in the first half but Long Eaton United replied with an equaliser from James Taylor. Danny Gordon fired The Blues in front and Rod Orlando-Young extended the lead with goals either side of half-time.

Ian Deakin made three changes to the side that drew 1-1 against Grantham Town on Tuesday. Rod Orlando-Young replaced Kam Campbell out wide, club captain Romaine Graham started ahead of Tyreece Robinson and Sam Parker came in for Larell King at full-back. Micah Jebbison remained on the sidelines after he picked up a knock against Bridlington Town and Brad Wilson served his suspension for the red card he received in the same match.

The Blues controlled the possession in the opening minutes and carved out a great chance to take the lead in the 7th minute. Taylor hit a low, driven cross to Jamie McGuire at the near post, the experienced centre midfielder struck the ball first-time but Charlie Woods made an excellent save with his left foot at full stretch to deny Long Eaton United an early lead.

Moments later Webb beat The Blues' offside trap, raced through on goal and slotted the ball past Sam Wilson to put the visitors ahead in the Cup tie after 10 minutes played.

Long Eaton United looked for an instant reply. Gordon moved out wide and crossed the ball to Alex Marshall but the striker’s header flew narrowly over the bar.

James Taylor found an equaliser in the 19th minute of play. Orlando-Young whipped in a beautiful cross which Alex Marshall met at the back post with a header, Woods saved the initial effort but Taylor was in the perfect position and tucked away the rebound.

Just five minutes later The Blues were in front, yet another dangerous cross from Orlando-Young was headed goalwards by Alex Marshall and this time Gordon was in position to convert the rebound and give Long Eaton the go-ahead goal.

Gordon was clearly in the mood for another goal as he tried his luck from range, his shot stung Wood’s gloves but looked destined for the top corner when it left his boot.
Orlando-Young scored The Blues third of the match in the 40th minute, the winger smashed the ball through Woods’ legs with a composed finish after Alex Marshall played him through on goal.

Quorn persisted in their pursuit for a second goal, primarily with Webb and David Assuncao playing on the shoulder of the last man. However, the half finished with Long Eaton United in front by two goals.

The second-half continued in a similar vein as Quorn looked to catch Long Eaton out with their quick counterattacks. Although, it was Orlando-Young who would find the back of the net first after the restart. The winger cut on to his left foot, beat his marker and picked out the bottom corner of the goal with another lovely finish to secure his second goal in the 55th minute.

Jamie Walker and second half substitute Jack Rogers created several chances for United as the half progressed but the earlier efforts were enough as the match ended 4-1 in favour of The Blues.
