
Alex Marshall opened the scoring with his 25th goal of the season and Mitchell Robinson extended the advantage just before half time with his second goal in as many games. After a dominant first half from Long Eaton, a goalless second half followed and The Blues left Hamilton Park with all three points.
Ian Deakin made one change to the starting XI that beat Skegness Town last weekend. James Taylor replaced Danny Gordon after the midfielder picked up a knock last weekend.
The hosts started on the front foot and threatened the Long Eaton United defence down the right wing but Sam Parker and Marley Fearon dealt with the attack well.
Once The Blues found their rhythm it was a completely different game. Shots from Alex Marshall and Larell King challenged the Nirvana goalkeeper in the following minutes with Long Eaton progressing further up the pitch with every attack.
Alex Marshall found the back of the net with a composed finish into the bottom corner to provide Long Eaton with an early lead in the 13th minute.
After several half chances, Robinson doubled the lead in the 39th minute. An inventive back-heel pass from Reco Fyfe provided Tom Marshall with the space to cross and Robinson towered above the Nirvana defence to head the ball across the line.
Going into the break with a two-goal lead, Long Eaton looked in control of the match and shortly after the restart The Blues were challenging the Nirvana goal once again. Jamie Walker rounded the goalkeeper but could not hit the target as the ball bobbled up from the turf at a tight angle.
Moments later, Brad Wilson skipped past two attempted slide tackles down the right wing and struck the bar with a cross from out wide. Taylor delivered the ball back into the area and Jamie Walker's downward header was saved by the 'keeper.
Nirvana came close to finding a reply when Sam Wilson dropped the ball in an aerial duel with two opposition strikers. The referee waved play on and Nirvana struck the crossbar with a volley from the edge of the box.
After a triple change was made by Deakin, Kam Campbell, James Shaw and Ben Hutchinson entered the fray. Shaw almost made an immediate impact, when he brought down a long ball forward from Robinson, turned and shot - Nirvana's keeper was on his toes and made a composed save to deny the substitute.
With time running out for the hosts, Nirvana looked to test Long Eaton on the counterattack, although Sam Wilson made a couple of routine saves to maintain the clean sheet.
In the final minute Shaw stung the hands of the hosts keeper with a snapshot volley. A strong effort on goal but struck within the reach of Nirvana's number one.
