Preview: Heanor Town (A)
This afternoon Long Eaton United travel to the Town Ground to face Derbyshire rivals Heanor Town.
Off the back of a 3-0 win against Melton Town at the weekend, Long Eaton are now undefeated in their opening five competitive fixtures this season. In that league victory, Alex Marshall opened the scoring with his fifth goal in as many games. In the second half, Jamie Walker found the back of the net via the underside of the bar with a superb strike and substitute James Shaw ended the match with a composed finish.
Meanwhile, Heanor fell to a 1-0 defeat at the Vertigo as a late own goal from Max Thornberry saw Skegness Town earn all three-points. The loss comes after The Lion’s 1-1 draw to Holbeach United and their 2-0 win against Gresley Rovers on the opening day of the United Counties League.
Previous Meetings –
Ian Deakin’s Blues played against Heanor Town in a 2-1 defeat as a heavily rotated squad played The Lions as part of our pre-season preparation. Although, it is fair to say both teams have seen wholesale changes to their playing staff in the year that has passed since.
Managers Quotes -
Looking ahead at the match against Heanor Town, Ian Deakin said: “If you can’t be confident after the start we’ve had, we will go in and try and win the game.
“The beauty of it is, there’s some tired legs today, we’ve got a good squad, so we might see a couple of changes and freshen it up – make sure the lads are ready to go.
“They [Heanor Town] are a tough side, I know what they play like, I know they have a good following. So, we are looking forward to going there and trying to win the game.”
Team News -
Blues’ captain Mitchell Robinson will serve the third match of his three-match ban against Heanor Town.
