Match Preview

Following Saturday's goalless draw against Nottinghamshire neighbours Basford United, Long Eaton's next task is at fellow Nottinghamshire side Carlton Town, with a trip to their Bill Stokeld home on Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm).

Carlton, who missed out on automatic promotion last season after failing to win 5 of their last 8 league games, and subsequently letting slip a 15 point advantage over their nearest challengers Anstey Nomads at the end of January, currently sit in 4th position in the table, having won 4 and lost 3 of their 7 games, accumulating a dozen points to date.

Whilst their away form has been patchy - with 2 heavy defeats at Boldmere (0-5) and Shepshed (0-4), they have won each of their last 3 home league games, edging out the opposition on all 3 occasions: Coleshill (1-0), Boston (2-1) and most recently Barwell Town (3-2).

Having lost their first home game against Nuneaton (0-2), they have recorded 3 wins and 1 defeat at home so far this league season.

Last season, The Millers recorded a total of 13 home league wins, the second most in the division, whilst drawing 3 and losing 5. That included a resounding 4-1 over The Blues in January, that was in the midst of a superb run from the middle of November through to end of January which saw Carlton claim 29 out of a possible 33 league points.

Long Eaton, who have now played 5 league games, are one of just two sides still yet to record a league victory this season, but at least did manage to claim our first point of the campaign with a spirited display against Basford - That on the back of a couple of poor displays at Grantham Town (1-3) and Rugby Borough (0-2).

Having also lost our other away game - at Shepshed Dynamo (2-3), The Blues are also the only side in the division yet to claim a point on their travels this season.

Former Carlton midfielder Alex Howes, who joined The Blues over the summer, but has been nursing an injury recently, is close to a return, and though he looks unlikely to be fit enough to figure on Tuesday, he didn't rule out the possibility of making the matchday squad.
