LONG EATON FACE DAUNTING TRIP TO 2nd PLACED SUTTON COLDFIELD

'Sutton Coldfield Town are one of just three remaining sides in the division yet to lose at home this season'... That's the tough looking statement which The Blues must face, as we prepare for our second of three trips to the West Midlands in the space of 8 days.

Following Saturday's defeat at Bedworth United, Long Eaton remain as the only side without a single point on their travels in 26/27. We did however, retain our position in 20th, two places off the bottom of the table, though other results do mean we are now effectively nine points from safety, and with just eight points acquired all season, that does look a daunting total to chase down - at the moment.

Whilst we were falling to defeat at Bedworth, The Royals were in the process of dismantling third placed Shepshed Dynamo 4-0, at Shepshed. Shepshed were their closest rivals, and that victory puts Sutton five points above The Dynamo, with two games in hand.

With 30 points acquired already this term, Sutton are 10 points off run-away leaders Wellingborough Town, who staggeringly have dropped just 2 points all season, with 13 wins and a draw from 14 games.

Sutton Coldfield's home record, in terms of points gained, is the 4th best in the league. Their record stands at 4 wins and 3 draws from 7 games, scoring 18 and conceding 12. Only Wellingborough have scored more on home soil so far (21).

Long Eaton may take some heart from the fact that Sutton have only actually won 1 of their last 4 home games, with draws against Grantham and Boston - both 3-3, and most recently Bedworth (1-1). Their victory over Mickleover (2-1) is their only home success since the end of August.

A new-look Long Eaton United side huffed and puffed at Bedworth, without creating any real opportunities. Perhaps The Blues ambitions for this trip will be modest in reality. Simply to build on Saturday's display and look to improve in all areas, maybe to make it hard for the home side could be a way to come away with some credit at least.

Having lost 10 out of our 14 game so far this season, only bottom-placed St Ives have lost more (13), whilst goals remain hard to come by.

Netting just 17 times to date, only St Ives (16) and Coventry United (15), have scored fewer, and our overall away record makes for grim reading. 6 defeats out of 6, and just 5 goals scored - the joint fewest with Bedworth United.

The Blues did announce their latest signing on Monday evening, forward Yerim Zoko, may perhaps be the answer to our goalscoring problems.

James Taylor did come off injured with a head injury on Saturday, his second of the season after a clash of heads at Mickleover, therefore he must be considered extremely doubtful for this trip, otherwise, a number of our new signings looked a little short of match practice, particularly in the second half on Saturday, with most lacking match sharpness due to their lack of game time elsewhere, and The Blues management pair will be hoping they can quickly get up to match speed as we look to claim our first points on the road in 26/27.
