Long Eaton United lost in their opening league game of the 26/27 season after falling behind by 3 goals to nil at the break > REPORT:
Shepshed Dynamo 3-2 Long Eaton United
Tuesday 11 August 2026
Northern Premier League, Division 1 Midlands
At the Dovecote, attendance 240
The proverbial game of two halves on a beautiful Tuesday evening ended in a disappointing defeat that Long Eaton so nearly rescued.
The early exchanges resulted in Long Eaton having to make an early change as Jamie Hanson limped off to be replaced by George Atwal with only 13 minutes on the clock. This seemed to totally disrupt the Blues as just four minutes later Shepshed took the lead, a loose ball being quickly centred for Massey to head into an empty net.
Long Eaton rallied and a Callum Cocks effort from the edge of the area was easily saved by the home keeper. A few minutes later, a corner was won by Jahvan Davidson-Miller, the ball was floated in and cleared, but only as far as Connor Pace who lashed the ball at goal, only for the effort to be well blocked by the home defence.
Just after the half hour came the best Long Eaton effort of the half as Evan Garnett wriggled through to smash a fierce shot at goal, only for the ball to hit the bar.
On 37 minutes, Dynamo went close with a cheeky header that Lewis King did well to tip over the bar, but you sensed that the Blues were on the back foot, and it was no real surprise when the second Shepshed goal arrived. It came in some style, Taylor Wyse smashing the ball home from the edge of the area. Just four minutes later the impressive Wyse was through again to finish superbly, the Blues having a torrid end to the half. The brightest part of the half for the Long Eaton faithful was the gorgeous view of the sunset from the Dovecote’s stands
The second half started how the first had ended with Wyse through again only to blaze high and wide. Strangely, that was almost it from Shepshed as the Blues grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, and started to make chances. On 55 minutes James Taylor touched a ball through to Evan Garnett and the Long Eaton striker sent the ball past the keeper with some aplomb. The Blues pressed, Callum Cocks with a free kick that failed to test the keeper, but overall the team were playing much better, being first to the ball and closing Shepshed down.
It was no surprise when the Blues scored a second with 15 minutes to play as Alex Howes took an age to bring the ball down but then fired the ball home. Just five minutes later Alex should have had a second with a great chance that was scrambled clear by a panicked Dynamo defence. It was all-out Long Eaton now, with Shepshed digging in to try and keep the points. Evan Garnett received a wonderful ball in from George Atwal that was spoiled when the referee adjudged him to have handled. It took until the 89th minute for Shepshed to threaten again, a saving tackle from Harry Eden stopping the threat. The Blues pressed again, but time expired.
A highly entertaining game to watch for the neutral, but one we lost with a disastrous last five minutes of the first half
