Blues rampant in 5-1 Win

Long Eaton United 5 - 1 AFC Wulfrunians

Long Eaton United made it back to back wins on Wednesday evening beating AFC Wulfrunians 5-1 at Grange Park.
The Wulfs who had beat the Blues 4-1 courtesy of 4 goals from Kyle Brady may have hoped to have been the first side to do the double over United this season. However apart from a Brady goal 2 minutes from time it was very much Uniteds night.

There wasn't a great deal to report on in the opening 10-12 minutes, both sides probing for openings that were quickly shut by both defences. In unseasonably warm conditions the ball was being played around well in a great Grange Park surface.

The Blues began to get a foothold in the game and won a succession of corners in the 16th minute. The last of which was headed away just outside the box, another visitor header sent the ball on to the right rather than upfield. Elliot King was waiting and brought the ball down, he took it past 2 challenges before hitting a shot into the bottom left hand corner.

This seemed to give United the impetus to push forward and on the 25th minute Wulfs were forced to concede another corner. This time Rickford got up in the better position and headed past the visitors keeper to make it 2-0.
The visitors were struggling to get the ball out of their own half and it got worse for them as they allowed Brad Wells to run in to the box from a Piliero through ball in the 32nd minute. The captain Piliero made it three from three spot kicks to ease the home side into a very healthy 3-0 lead.
United could have had another 4 minutes before the break but the keeper managed to tip over a Cooper-Richards attempt from 25 yards. The corner then fell to Wright who saw his low drive deflected out for a throw. Half time and the Blues were rampant.

The 2nd and as expected AFC Wulfrunuans started quickly getting down the United wings well and pushing forward in numbers. However the Blues defence were working well and slow was largely untroubled.
It was still the visitors who were having the better of the possession as the game went into its last quarter. Then the killer blow was dealt by substitute Jarrad Westcarr as he got his 2nd in 2 games. A great ball from showing saw the attacker through on the right. Westcarr made no mistake and slammed the ball through a clutch of players past the visitors keeper.
That in the scheme of things was that but there was still time for 2 further goals. United hit 5 in the 81st minute with a 5th scorer as Upton raced through to slot past the stranded keeper to round off a great team effort for United.
The Wulfs weren't to go home completely empty handed as Brady who caused United so many problems in Wolverhampton scored from a squared pass.
There were big signs in this display that United were getting back to their best and hopefully push back up the table.
