We complete our month-long away trips with the short journey to Shepshed Dynamo on Saturday.
Shepshed still harbour very realistic play-off hopes lying in 7th position after a fine season so far, whilst our run of 1 win in our last 10 games has seen us fall out of the frame for the end of season extension.
OPPOSITION
Since October 2024, Dynamo have been managed by Gary Drake, and the well respected coach won Step 4 Manager Of The Month in January this year following a run of 3 wins and a draw from their 4 games, conceding just 1 goal.
Playing their home games at The Dovecote Stadium, many supporters prefer to reference it by the street name; Butthole Lane. This season, they have averaged just a touch over 250 at home games, and with 9 wins at home, only 3 sides have enjoyed more - and those are 3 of the top 4 sides in the Division.
Defensively, they have proved to be a tough side to break down, conceding just 35 all season, with 16 of those at home - only 2 sides have conceded fewer - Anstey (14) & Belper (15)
Shepshed traditionally play in black and white striped shirts at home.
FORM
Shepshed's form of late has been inconsistent, in their last 6 games, they have won 3 and lost 3, whilst 5 of their last 7 games have finished with the scoreline of 1-0 or 0-1.
Goals at both ends have been something of a rarity; Failing to score in 5 of their last 9, whilst keeping a clean sheet in 3 of those and not conceding more than one in any of their last 13 games - a run which goes back to just before Christmas.
On Saturday, they beat Coventry Sphinx 2-0 with a goal in each half, that ended a run of scoring just once in over 6 hours of football previous.
The Blues recent form has been better, just 1 defeat in our last 5 games, however, with just 1 in our last 10 games, we have taken just 6 points out of a possible 30, and lie in the middle of the league table in 11th place.
Saturday's 0-0 draw at play-off chasing Wellingborough ended as a positive point, having played the final quarter with 10-men and a makeshift goalkeeper following Lewis King's dismissal.
Incidentally, that was our first away goalless draw under Brad Munn in 3 years, and our first in nearly a decade! Heanor Town away in August 2016 was our last, previous away stalemate!
Currently, Shepshed lie in 7th position* in the league table on 51 points from 35 games, 4 points and 4 places ahead of The Blues, having played 1 game fewer. That game in hand is a big clash against Belper next Tuesday.
*Note some midweek games this week may affect league placings when writing this.
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
Recently, we have come out on top in our recent meetings, with a regular scoreline of 3-0 to The Blues.
Firstly, we last locked horns towards the start of the season on a Tuesday night in August at Grange Park. The Blues came out on top, winning this one 3-0 with Tristan Thompson-Matthews netting two, either side of a strike from Dexter Walters, though the scoreline could have been closer had it not been for a combination of poor finishing and some decent Lewis King saves.
Our last trip to the Dovecote Stadium, was also 3-0, in October '24. Long Eaton ran riot in the first half, with strikes from Pace, Taylor and Betts, without reply.
To complete our trio of 3-0 successes, we completed a league double over The Dynamo on 1st March last year, but this time it was much closer than the scoreline suggests. Gianluca Bucci opened the scoring, but not until the 82nd minute, before even later goals from James Shaw and Liam Loughlan glossed over the scoreline at Grange Park.
