Long Eaton United ended their 5 game losing sequence with a goalless draw at home to Lichfield City at Grange Park on Saturday.
The Blues were, for large parts the dominant side, however they were thankful to Lewis King making 2 splendid second-half saves to deny City an away win.
Jahvan Davidson-Miller clattered the woodwork late on, but it finished goalless - Long Eaton's first 0-0 draw of the campaign, whilst this was Lichfield's third successive goalless draw in a row.
Long Eaton welcomed back both Owen Betts (concussion) and Gianluca Bucci (suspension) into the starting line-up after both missed the past month. Coden Duncan was unavailable through injury, therefore, Jahvan Davidson-Miller returned to the team, with Kyle Burke and Jamie Hanson dropping to a stronger looking bench.
The Blues kicked off, attacking their favoured end, towards the bowls club, with light drizzle in the air, and quickly established a foothold in the game. Both sides had an effort on target in the opening exchanges, with Davidson-Miller, who was looking particularly sharp upon his return, forcing a save from the visitors' Brendon Bunn.
The visitors had a good chance to open the scoring from a corner, but Jack Edwards, who scored twice earlier in the reverse fixture, saw his glancing header go just over the bar, with King at full stretch.
The Blues began to get on the front foot, causing problems in the final third, but were unable to make a telling final pass, with crosses across the face of goal from Bucci and Walters managing to evade everyone.
Five minutes before the break, the best chance of the game fell to Davidson-Miller, with a ball across from the left hand side presenting the attacker with a clear sight on goal, but with 'keeper Bunn racing out of his box, he managed to get just enough on the effort to deflect it away.
With a couple of minutes of stoppage time added for an injury to Davidson-Miller, referee Schofield blew for half-time. Long Eaton the better side overall, but Lichfield proving resolute at the back.
Long Eaton pushed forward in the second half seeking the elusive opener, but after 55 minutes were caught on the break, Lewis King superbly denying Jude Taylor when one-on-one. Just minutes later, an almost identical breakaway saw substitute Smith denied by a combination of Jayden Cotterill and King, before The Blues were able to scramble the ball clear.
On the back foot, the home side responded well and a lovely move involving James Taylor, Evan Garnett and Davidson-Miller saw the latter have a brief sight on goal, delicately chipping the ball over the advancing 'keeper, only for the ball to drift just wide of the post.
Another breakaway for Lichfield caused Long Eaton more problems, this time Bucci, just back from suspension, clipped Harvey Smith when advancing towards goal. Bucci received a yellow card despite the appeals from Lichfield asking for it to be more. The resulting free-kick was struck into the Blues' wall.
Dexter Walters who was so dangerous in the first half was replaced by George Atwal, whilst in the closing stages, Tristan Thompson-Matthews was withdrawn for Kyle Burke.
With 4 minutes of injury time added, the game remained goalless, and seemingly despite the best efforts of both sides, appeared to be heading for a stalemate, incredibly Lichfield's third successive 0-0 draw.
The plucky Davidson-Miller, shifted back to the left hand side now, had one final effort to win the match for the hosts, and with the last play of the game, agonisingly crashed the woodwork from a tight angle, with the keeper beat at his near post. The ball rebounded away from goal and The Blues weren't able to make that telling touch once again.
As the referee blew for full time, several Blues players sank to their knees having gave their all to break down a mean Lichfield defensive line, however this quite easily could have been another home defeat had it not been for Captain Lewis King pulling off 2 tremendous saves.
