Long Eaton United suffered a dismal defeat at Boldmere St Michaels in our replayed game on Tuesday night.

3 goals in 5 chaotic first half minutes set the tone for the evening, though The Blues did briefly pull themselves level , mistakes cost us dearly.

A disappointing night for Long Eaton in a match that started in spectacular fashion only to fizzle out.

The early exchanges drew nothing from either side, so it was a surprise when the game suddenly jolted into life as James Tague ran clear for Boldmere and with Lewis King going walkabout outside his area, the Boldmere striker cooly chipped Lewis to put his side a goal to the good.

Four minutes later, it was all square as Evan Garnett caused havoc in the penalty area and in the scramble, Evan’s punt at goal beat the keeper and the defender on the line could only turn it in. Evan’s goal or own goal? Well, Evan claimed it so that’s that!

The game was level for a full 42 seconds, Boldmere’s Fraser Doyle’s run at goal ending with him beating Lewis at his near post. A very eventful four and a half minutes! Boldmere continued to make the chances, an effort was smothered by Lewis King before the Mikes had the ball in the net again, only this time it was the Assistant Referee’s flag to the rescue. Long Eaton were fortunate to go in at the break only 2-1 behind.

Gianluca Bucci should have pulled the Blues level early in the second period, his toepoke saved by the keeper. The rest of the half was a lot of huffing and puffing with no discernible result until a hoofed ball forward after 68 minutes played the always dangerous Tague in again, the Boldmere number 9 beating Bucci before lobbing the ball home to make the game comfortable for the hosts. James Taylor shot njust wide with just over 15 minutes to play, but that was the last real effort of the game

Three points definitely lost, no disrespect to Boldmere who were much the better side on the night and deserved the win.
