Long Eaton United were defeated by two goals to nil against Rugby Borough at home on Tuesday night.
A late goal in the first half from Oran Jackson and an own goal early on in the second half meant the visitors took home three points.
Long Eaton are next in action on Saturday afternoon at The Family Only Stadium as they host Bourne Town.
Brad Munn made zero changes to the starting XI that faced Boldmere St. Michaels on Saturday. The only change to the matchday squad was Connor Pace’s inclusion on the substitute bench to the expense of Nykah Liburd-Hines and Aaron Cole.
The visitors had the opening chance of the match; this did not happen until the 19th minute. Kane Richards was put through on goal but Lewis King stood strong at his front post in order to deny the Rugby attacker of an opening goal.
The Blues enjoyed plenty of the ball throughout the opening 25 minutes however opportunities to take the lead were limited.
King was called into action again in the 29th minute when Luke Rowe found himself with space in the box for Rugby. His left-footed strike was saved low down by the Blues skipper.
Dave Stringer’s took the lead just moments before the half-time whistle. A corner was delivered from the left side by Wil Grocott and centre-back, Oran Jackson, was at the back post to head the ball into the back of the net.
The visitors had a one-goal lead at the half-time break.
Rugby Borough made a fast start to the second half and doubled their lead in the 52nd minute. A free-kick was taken by Grocott from the left side and unfortunately Jake Finnerty turned the ball into the back of the net after a failed clearance.
Munn’s side looked to respond sharply.
In the 55th minute, Tristan Thompson-Matthews received the ball around the penalty spot after a pass from Elliot Hartmann, however, the former’s shot was picked up by Marcus Bald as the ball looked to be travelling into the bottom right corner.
Connor Pace was introduced in the second half and looked to create chances for Long Eaton. He had one for himself in the 78th minute but the midfielder’s shot from outside of the box went wide of the left post.
In a game where chances were few it was Rugby Borough who left with victory.
The Blues will be looking to bounce back on Saturday afternoon at home.
