Preview: 2026 is here and Long Eaton United kick-off the new year against top of the table Carlton Town on Saturday.
Long Eaton:
The Blues finished 2025 in style, ending it six games unbeaten in all competitions and five games unbeaten in the league.
Scoring 11 goals across their last two league games of the year, Long Eaton will be looking to continue this impressive run of form that they find themselves in.
This rush of points that has risen from Brad Munn’s side’s last performances has allowed the Blues to sit in 9th position in the league table, currently on 35 points.
Only three points separates Long Eaton and fifth-place Coleshill Town.
Carlton Town and Long Eaton United are first and second in goals scored in the league this season respectively, with the Millers outscoring the Blues by one having scored 44.
Carlton Town:
As mentioned, Carlton Town sit at the top of the table and have created an 11-point gap between themselves and Belper Town who sit on 43 points.
Having only lost three league games this season, Carlton go into Saturday’s match being unbeaten in their previous seven. They have won six of those seven after drawing 2-2 to Basford United on Boxing Day. Carlton Town were 2-0 up in that one until Basford United scored in the 86th and 90+4th minute to earn a point.
The Millers have only lost two matches at home in all competitions this season and have lost one match since the end of September 2025.
Previous Meetings in 25/26:
Long Eaton United have hosted Carlton Town twice already this season at the Family Only Stadium, once in the league and once in the Isuzu FA Trophy.
The two sides met firstly in the league on Monday the 25th of August 2025 on a warm bank holiday.
Ashley Chambers opened the scoring for the visitors in the 20th minute and who else remembers that Jake Finnerty rocket in the 90+4th minute.
The points were split in the league as it finished 1-1.
12 days later, Carlton returned to the Family Only Stadium only this time in the FA Trophy.
The match finished 2-2 and went to a penalty shootout however it was the Millers who progressed to the next round after winning 3-2 from the spot.
Brad Munn ahead of Carlton Town away:
“They have not beat us yet in 90 minutes, they have beat us on penalties in the FA Trophy.”
“It feels a bit like Quorn last year. So we will go away to there and we know all of their team and the management and it is super respectful between both sets.”
“We are going to go there and give a proper account of ourselves and take it to them.”
Evan Garnett ahead of Carlton Town away:
“We are full of confidence. We will respect them because they have had a really good start.”
“We have played them a couple of times already and they were a pair of really tight games, there was not much between them.”
“They are a top side and they are up there for a reason and we will go into it full of confidence, hopefully we can continue putting them really good performances in and get the result.”
And finally we would like to wish every single person associated with Long Eaton United Football Club a very happy new year!
