Captain fantastic Lewis King rescues a point for the Blues at the death against Basford United!

A game that brought action and drama saw both sides end the game with a point each.

Basford United struck first late in the second half but were reduced to 10 men minutes later.

The Blues used this numerical advantage to pump the ball forward in the search of an equaliser, and they found it through the unlikeliest of ways.

Brad Munn named two changes to his side that drew 1-1 against Coventry Sphinx last Saturday.

King commanded the usual backline of Owen Betts, Gianluca Bucci, Jayden Cotterill and Elliot Hartmann.

Connor Pace was not in the squad today as he was out through illness, so Jamie Hanson filled that centre midfield position with Coden Duncan and Tristan Thompson-Matthews alongside.

Evan Garnett was the central attacker in the team with James Taylor on his right and Dexter Walters on his left.

James Shaw, George Atwal, Jahvan Davidson-Miller, Aaron Cole and Munn were all named on the bench.

The first half started brightly in our favour as we pushed hard and produced some great attacking football.

Walters, Garnett and Tristan were all heavily involved in our early attacking plays.

Hanson struck the crossbar in the 36th minute from the edge of the box being our best chance of the first half.

Basford’s best chance of the half came with just a few minutes before the break as King was forced into a brilliant diving save.

We began the second half in the same fashion as the first as the Basford backline was continuing to be challenged.

The hosts found the back of our net 15 minutes after the restart, but there was a foul in the buildup, so it was ruled out.

King pulled off a great stop with his foot as substitute Rev James was 1v1 with him inside the box in the 62nd minute.

Jahvan replaced Tristan with 20 minutes to play.

Jahvan’s first impact on the game was a yellow card six minutes after his substitution as he produced a high foot.

A minute after the yellow, Evan had the chance to take the lead after bringing down a wonderful Taylor cross toward the back post. Evan opted to go inward with the ball and try to beat three players, which he did, but a fourth came in and blocked his shot.

Shaw was introduced in the 81st minute as he replaced Dexter.

The hosts broke the deadlock in the 84th minute after a corner into the box was headed goalward and Taylor got his head to it but directed it into our net.

Shaw had the chance to equalize three minutes later after a one-two with Evan saw him through on goal. Unfortunately, he placed it far wide of the goal.

Basford’s James was awarded a straight red card for an elbow to the face in the third minute of added time.

With three minutes left, the ball was continuously pumped forward, and we won a corner with a minute left.

King entered the box but watched the first corner flicked behind by a Basford head.

The second corner came in, and it was a scramble inside the box with many players attacking it, but King produced an Evan Garnett trademark goal as he rifled it into the net on the spin.

What a moment that was!

The hosts, dejected, got the game back underway, but the referee blew the whistle instantly and signaled the end of the game.

Our next match is at home against St Neots Town on Saturday 6 December.
