Long Eaton United vs Coventry Sphinx
Northern Premier League – Midlands Division
Family Only Stadium, Long Eaton, Derbyshire – 22/11/2025
League football returns to Grange Park this Saturday afternoon as Long Eaton United host Coventry Sphinx.
The Blues will be looking to bounce back after last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat away to Lichfield City, something we know that Brad Munn’s side are more than capable of.
A first-half brace from Jack Edwards was enough for Lichfield to secure all three points.
Long Eaton United go into Saturday’s clash with The Sphinx in 13th position having earned 24 points from the first 18 games of the season. We are approaching the midway point of the 2025/26 campaign.
Our opponents on Saturday occupy 9th position in the league table. Coventry Sphinx have collected 25 points from there opening 17 matches of the season. Their match against AFC Rushden & Diamonds last Saturday was abandoned towards the end of the first half as the referee alerted both clubs that a spectator had made a derogatory comment towards her.
It took Coventry Sphinx until the 20th of September for them to lose their first match in the league. Since that first defeat, which came against St Neots Town, The Sphinx have only won two league matches.

Head-to-head 2024/25:
Coventry Sphinx 1-5 Long Eaton United (Saturday 14th September 2024)
Jordan Hayward (32’) Evan Garnett (15’, 45+6’, 56’, 60’, 89’)
Evan Garnett was on absolute fire when The Blues travelled to the Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena last season. The scoreline was 1-1 when Sam Lockley was shown a straight red card for Coventry Sphinx in the 42nd minute. Garnett scored his second just moments before the half-time whistle and it was floodgates from that moment. Forget taking the match ball home, Garnett took the whole bag home on that day.
Long Eaton United 1-0 Coventry Sphinx (Saturday 7th December 2024)
James Shaw (68’)
The reverse fixture at the Family Only Stadium was a much closer affair with a James Shaw goal in the 68th minute being the decider.
Brad Munn speaks ahead of clash with The Sphinx:
“They (Coventry Sphinx) had an extremely good start and they’ve fell off. Then they’ve had some half decent results in between that.”
“But we all can do that, we all seem to yo-yo a little bit. There’s no-one that seems to want to run away with the league so three points is so valuable at the moment.”
“All we can do is go into Cov and expect to go and take it to them and try and get three points it’s as simple as that.”
