Mickleover FC 0-2 Long Eaton United – 12/08/2025 – Don Amott Arena, Derbyshire
Northern Premier League – Midlands Division – GW2
First half goals from Dexter Walters and James Shaw ensured that the Blues got there first points on the board in their 2025/26 campaign.
Dexter Walters opened the scoring with what is his first competitive goal for the Blues before James Shaw got his first goal of the season just ten minutes after.
The two goals were enough for Brad Munn’s side to travel back home with all three points.
Brad made one change to the starting XI for yesterday’s game, this saw James Shaw starting ahead of Jahvan Davidson-Miller.
Both sides had chances early on to take the lead with Connor Pace having a pop from the outside of the box which went narrowly wide of the top left corner.
Owen Betts showed great anticipation to get into the correct position to clear a Mickelover effort off of the line just moments after.
We came closest to opening the scoring in the 11th minute when Tristan Thompson-Matthews hit the post. A lovely team move down the left resulted with a cross being played into Tristan who found himself in a central position in the box. With a swipe of his left boot he made solid contact with the ball however his effort hit the woodwork. The goal was coming...
In the 17th minute we took the lead. Tristan and Dexter both combined for this one. The duo played a slick one-two pass on the edge of the box with Dexter picking up the ball and striding with it into a very nice shooting position. Dexter shot with his left foot and the ball curled into the bottom left corner. A very nice move.
We had our second in the 26th minute. Evan Garnett picked up the ball on the left side of the box and cut it back to Shaw who was in the right spot at the right time to tap the ball home.
Brad was forced into a change in the 35th minute as Evan Garnett was replaced by Jahvan Davidson-Miller.
There was nearly a third for the Blues late on in the half when Jake Finnerty played a ball across goal to Jahvan who found his effort being blocked by sliding Mickleover defenders.
Shaw went for the spectacular in the 62nd minute when he decided to attempt a chip from outside of the box which was very close to being a goal of the season contender already. The ball just went over the bar.
Mickleover did throw a lot more at us in the second half however the Blues defence stayed resolute to pick up the three points and a clean sheet. Perfect.
Our first win of the season sees us move up to eight in the league with an FA Cup tie against Hinckley AFC on Saturday afternoon up next.
Who does not love the FA Cup? Kirkby Road is the place to be on Saturday afternoon as the Blues begin their road to Wembley.
