Northern Premier League – Midlands Division

It was a hard-fought victory in the end, but two goals from James Shaw and a late goal for Tristan Thompson Matthews was the difference between the Blues and the hosts.
Jonathan Letford pulled a goal back for the Greenbacks in the 74th minute, but all three points went to the Blues.
Brad Munn named an unchanged side that defeated Corby Town last Saturday.
Long Eaton made a fast start to the game and Connor Pace had the ball in the back of the net in the 23rd minute however the linesman had his flag up for offside.
It was then Bedworth’s chance to go close to the opener, if it was not for Callum Cocks’ goal-line clearance then they would have succeeded in their bid to go one up.
The Blues went ahead in the 44th minute. James Taylor did well to beat his man down the right flank and he found the inform James Shaw in the middle of the box who headed into the net.
Long Eaton went into the break 1-0 up and in a commanding position.
Bedworth threatened to equalise in the opening encounters of the second half with Lewis King being called on in multiple scenarios to keep Long Eaton in front.
We entered the 62nd minute and the Blues had their second. Shaw also had his brace. Cocks won his aerial battle and the ball fell to Shaw who sweetly struck his half volley into the top left corner. James now has eight goals in his past four games.
Bedworth pulled a goal back in the 74th minute. The Greenbacks scrambled for the ball inside Long Eaton’s box and the Blues’ defence failed to clear the ball which allowed Jonathan Letford to finish past King.
Shaw thought he had his hat-trick and was wheeling off in celebration in the 79th minute when he found the net again however the linesman had other ideas when he chalked off the goal due to the bagsman being in an offside position.
The Blues sealed all three points in the 93rd minute. It was Tristan Thompson Matthews with his first goal for the club. Taylor slipped Thompson Matthews in on goal and he stayed calm to slot the ball into the bottom left corner.
The match finished 3-1 to the Blues.
It is now only one loss in 11 for Brad Munn’s side. That seriously is some going.
Long Eaton travel to Anstey Nomads this coming Saturday to continue their bid for promotion.
We appreciate everyone’s support who made the journey down to Bedworth on a cold Tuesday night.
Come on you Blues!
