Quorn 2-3 Long Eaton United

Long Eaton were 3-2 winners as they travelled away to the Stotto Stadium to face league leaders Quorn. Gianluca Bucci opened the scoring in the 24th minute, before Luca Alonzi tied the game for the hosts. A Liam Loughlan second-half brace put the Blues 3-1 in front, with Zak Goodson pulling one back for Quorn in the 87th minute.
Long Eaton are in 4th position in the league going into the next group of fixtures.
Long Eaton were so close to taking the lead in the 23rd minute. Ryan Campbell-Gordon sprinted down the left wing and delivered a ball to the front post where Evan Garnett was running onto the end of it. The strikers flicked effort with his right foot hit the left post.
The Blues took the lead the minute after in the 24th. Callum Cocks delivered a corner into the box from the left and the ball found Gianluca Bucci at the back post. On instinct he hit the ball with his right on the side of his boot and the ball travelled past Tom Allsopp into the bottom right corner.
Lewis King was called into action when he denied Zak Goodson in the 35th minute. King stood tall at his front post to tip the ball out for a corner.
The resulting corner led to the equaliser.
The league leaders levelled in the 36th minute. A corner put in from the right side caused panic in the box and after a scramble, the ball eventually fell to Luca Alonzi who fizzed in a shot into the bottom right corner.
Tom Wall blew his whistle for half-time and the fixture was tied 1-1. A very close game.
Liam Loughlan nearly scored goal of the season in the 49th minute. He rolled the ball out of his feet from a central position outside of the box and unleashed a knuckleballed effort. The ball moving in the air, Allsopp did not stand a chance. The left post was the only thing to deny Loughlan of a worldie.
Loughlan had his goal deservedly in the 53rd minute. The attacking midfielder played a give and go with Garnett and his left footed shot from the left side of the box rifled into the top left corner. Loughlan and Long Eaton started the second half on fire.
Jasper Tetlow’s last-ditch challenge denied Garnett getting a shot off from close range. The Blues could have been two in front if the shot was allowed.
Loughlan had his second in the 70th minute. Connor Pace played Evan Garnett through on goal. His shot stung the palms of Allsopp and the ball rebounded out to Loughlan who tapped the ball home into an empty net. The Blues had a deserved two-goal lead.
Zak Goodson pulled one back for the hosts in the 87th minute. The ball dropped to him on the left side of the box and a first timed strike found itself into the top right corner. A sweet strike by the midfielder.
The Blues did it!
Quorn’s 22 game league unbeaten streak in the league came to an end and at the expense of Brad Munn’s side.
Long Eaton next face Bedworth United at the Oval, where the lads will be looking to continue their six-game unbeaten streak in the league. The game takes place on the 11th of January and is a 3pm kick-off.
The race for the play-offs is heating up.
