Match Report: Racing Club Warwick 4-2 Long Eaton United
The Blues took the lead thanks to a superb free-kick from Liam Loughlan.
Racing Club Warwick’s flurry of goals started before the half-time break thanks to Tolani Omotola before second half finishes from Ashley Sammons, Max McNulty and Andre Williams put the home side into a comfortable position.
James Shaw grabbed a conciliation for Long Eaton late on.
The Blues started the day in sixth position coming off the back of a 1-1 draw against Rugby Town last Saturday.
Liam Loughlan came agonisingly close to putting his side one up and what a finish it would have been. A left footed effort from outside of the box was swirling towards the top left corner but seemed to hit a combination of post and crossbar. Heads were turning and arms up in the air thinking that the ball had entered the net and came back out. The game remained goalless.
The Racers had a chance off their own in the 12th minute. Max McNulty’s determined running allowed him to get on the end of a long ball. He cut inside, shifted the ball onto his right but Ben Allsop got down well to his left to deny the effort.
Loughlan put the blues one up in the 15th minute from a free kick just outside of the box. McNulty was left stranded as the ball was placed into the side netting to his right. It was clear to see that Loughlan was enjoying himself out there.
It was a fairly contested first half. Both sides playing some nice football, some good movements in places.
Long Eaton’s high line was catching the Racing Club Warwick attack off guard, running offside on multiple occasions.
The visitors were close to doubling their lead in the 40th minute. It was top goal scorer Evan Garnett with the opportunity, however his shot across goal with his right travelled past the left post.
The home side had equalised a minute before the half time break. Tolani Omotola was the goal scorer. He used his strength to his advantage, holding off Jayden Cotterill. With the swipe of his right boot he finished well under Alssop to level the game.
It was a first half that proved the footballing styles of both sides. Getting the ball on the floor, passing and moving was the plan implemented. It would be rude not to attempt to play football on a pitch as good as this one. The surface at Townsend Meadow is 4G.
Ashley Sammons put Warwick in front in the 56th minute. He was in his own half when he caught Allsop off his line. With the perfect execution, the clipped effort found its way into the goal.
Two minutes later, Sammons was substituted for Connor Taylor. His last play of the game was not bad to say the least.
Warwick got their third in the 73rd minute. Cameron Ebbutt got his head up and noticed that Max McNulty had made a run in behind the Long Eaton backline. He ran onto the end of Ebbutt’s lobbed ball, got the ball out of his feet and finished with his right under Allsop.
Chances for Long Eaton had been very limited throughout the second half.
Ruben Freeman was shown a straight red card after a late challenge on Ryan Campbell-Gordon. Racing Club Warwick were down to 10.
The home fans were together in numbers showing their anger towards the decision, arguing that the challenge deserved a yellow and nothing more.
It did not stop the rampage from the Racers however.
It was 4-1 in the 85th minute. Substitute Andre Williams got his name on the scoresheet. His finish from the left side of the six-yard box rolled under the legs of Allsop.
James Shaw clawed a goal back for Long Eaton in the 91st minute. Campbell-Gordon’s shot from the left was parried out by Sam Lomax into the path of Shaw who converted into an open net.
The referee blew to signify the end of the 90 minutes with the final score being 4-2 in favour of Racing Club Warwick.
Long Eaton’s next league fixture is at home to Coventry Sphinx on the 7th December.
The lads will be looking to bounce back and get the three points.
