Blues were crushingly condemned by a dominant Steelman display on Saturday afternoon at Steel Park.

A Fletcher Toll brace and goals from Neo Dobson and Callum Milne gave Corby a comfortable lead going into the break.

Toll bagged his hattrick early in the second half before Reuben Marshall netted a brace of his own for the hosts to make it an awful day at the office for Long Eaton.

Brad Munn was forced into four changes coming into the match, as Ryan Campbell-Gordon, Evan Garnett, and Gianluca Bucci all missed through injury, while Connor Pace was dropped to the bench – in their place came Ryley D’Sena, Ethan Hulley, Andrew Wright and Liam Loughlan.

Corby evidently began the more eager of the two sides when with just two minutes on the clock Northampton Town loanee Dobson delicately flicked a deep through ball past the committed Lewis King to give the Steelman an early lead.

Seven minutes later, Toll netted the Steelmen’s second of the match as he beat King to a lofted pass and guided the ball into the back of the net.

Then, after just 13 minutes played, a towering Milne beat his marker to thump a header past King following an in-swinging Corby corner.

Toll secured his brace in the 22nd minute as he calmly slotted the ball past a diving King following a mistake from James Hanson in a one-on-one situation.

Corby came close to making it five mid-way through the second half, as Toll whipped a free kick towards goal from the edge of the area, although the fingertips of King denied the forward.

The Blues, however, did have a chance of their own in the 40th minute, as Loughlan rocketed an effort from 20 yards out, but it turned out to be a comfortable diving stop for former Blues shot-stopper Ross Durrant.

It was a first half to forget for the Blues, but disappointingly, the second half did not begin much better.

Just six minutes after the restart, Toll chased down a forward pass and effortlessly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner and past the diving King to secure his hat-trick on home soil.

Moments later, James Shaw had a huge opportunity to pull one back for the Blues, as the forward drove towards goal and attempted to poke the ball under a committed Durrant, but the Corby keeper did well to stop the shot.

Then, with ten minutes left to play, substitute Alans Voskresenskis came close with a thumped effort from just inside the box, however once again it was Durrant in the way to deny the Blues.

To rub salt in the wounds of Brad Munn’s side, Corby substitute Marshall secured the hosts’ sixth and seventh late in the match to secure a statement three points for the Northamptonshire-based side.
