Lye Town 1-1 Long Eaton United

Long Eaton drew 1-1 away to Lye Town on Saturday afternoon.

Lye Town equalised late on in the 86th minute. Joe Palmer converted the rebound of his own penalty that was initially saved by Lewis King.
Evan Garnett had the first chance of the game for Long Eaton. He got onto the end of an Owen Betts cross from the right, however his effort went just wide of the right post.
The Blues were 1-0 up in the 15th minute. James Shaw’s shot from the right side of the box was parried out into a dangerous area by Lye goalkeeper, George Barrett. James Taylor was there on hand to tap the ball home into an empty net.
A minute after, Lye were nearly level. The ball fell to Lewis Wright on the edge of the box and his shot from a central area was tipped over the bar by the returning Lewis King.
The home side played some tidy football around the edge of Long Eaton’s box in the 42nd minute which resulted in a shot from Wright. His left footed effort from a central area narrowly went wide of the left post.
The half-time whistle went and Long Eaton took a 1-0 lead into the changing room.
Andrew Wright was introduced as the second half begun and he had a chance to double Long Eaton’s lead in the 51st minute. A ball into the box by goal scorer Taylor found Shaw, he teed up Wright with his first touch but the connection was minimal as the pitch continued to cause problems.
Danny Cartwright’s freekick caused a slight worry for King as the ball bounced just before the keeper went down to claim it. The ball was cleared in the end and the Blues remained in the lead.
Long Eaton were awarded a penalty in the 65th minute.
Dazzling feet from Liam Loughlan allowed him some space in the box to deliver a cross. Cartwright blocked the delivery however the ball made contact with his arm in the process.
Wright stepped up to take the penalty kick however it was saved by Barrett as the keeper got down well to his left to make sure there was still only one goal in it.
Garnett was the quickest to respond in the box as the ball rolled out to the striker from Barrett’s save however his attempt went wide of the right post. Luckily for the striker, the linesman has his flag up for offside. Blushes were spared.
There was another penalty awarded, this time for Lye in the 86th minute. Boubacar Diallo was tripped in the box.
James Hanson was shown a second yellow card of the game due to the aftermath of the challenge. Long Eaton were down to 10.
King saved the initial penalty with his feet, diving to his right, but the rebound was followed in by the penalty taker, Joe Palmer, meaning there was 10 minutes left for someone to grab a winner.
There was no winner in the end and the points were shared.
Long Eaton now sit seventh in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division table.
