Having not played yet in the month of December, or picking up four points in nine games, Lye Town host Long Eaton United in the Northern Premier League – Midlands Division – for the second time this season.
The first encounter between the two sides took place on September 21, with Long Eaton United coming out on top as they won 3-0 at the Family Only Stadium at Grange Park thanks to a James Taylor brace and a late goal from Liam Loughlan.
The hosts sit 20th in the league with four points being the difference between them and 18th placed Hinckley LRFC (18 points). Whereas for Long Eaton United, they sit in the upper half of the table as they are holding onto fifth place, with Anstey Nomads below them by one point, but two games in hand.
Brad Munn’s men will look to complete the domestic double on the West Midlands based team as they look to get back to winning ways after their 2-1 defeat to Loughborough Students on Tuesday night.
“I’m not concerned, we’ve got a lot of quality, and when it clicks, we’re a good outfit and we seem to score in pretty much every game and usually multiple goals.” Is what Munn said when he was asked about his thoughts on the upcoming game with Lye Town.
And quality Long Eaton United have as their top goal scorer Evan Garnett has netted 10 goals so far this season in the league placing him joint second with Hinckley LRFC’s Liam Reed and five goals behind league top goal scorer and Corby Town’s Fletcher Toll.
Following on from Garnett, Lewis King will be available again for first team selection following his three-game suspension being fulfilled after his straight red against Rugby Town on November 23.
Long Eaton United should fancy their chances against their upcoming opponents as the Blues have a record of four wins and five losses on the road so far this season in the league.
Despite it not sounding too impressive, the hosts have played ten games so far at home and have achieved a record of two wins, two draws and six losses and a goal difference of minus 14 (11 goals scored and 25 goals conceded).
The game will take place at the Sports Ground, Stourbridge Road, Lye, West Midlands, DY9 7DH and kick off will commence at 3:00pm.
