The Blues captain Andrew Wright netted the only goal of the first half to give United the advantage at the break.
Although, it was Paddy Webb that struck in stoppage time to make it an unbeaten start to the 2024/25 season for Quorn.
Brad Munn opted to make one change to the side that fell to opening day defeat, as Evan Garnett made his competitive debut for the Blues ahead of Ethan Hulley.
Quorn began the game on the front foot, momentum fuelled off the back of their 5-1 victory in their season opener against Sutton Coldfield Town, as Cain Noble and Webb had shots saved by Ben Allsop early on.
However, it was the Blues that took the lead in the 30th minute through club captain Wright. Garnett, James Taylor and Liam Loughlan linked up superbly down the right to worm their way into the box, in which the latter did and drilled a cross towards the penalty spot for Wright to strike home.
Zak Goodson almost levelled the scoreline on the stroke of half time, although Owen Betts’ superb recovery and goal line clearance meant that the Blues held the advantage at the break.
Munn’s side began the second half with a spring in their step – less than two minutes after the restart, Callum Cocks’ cross-shot had to be headed off the line by Mason Frizelle.
Ryley D’Sena also came close for the Blues moments later, as the defender connected with Loughlan’s driven cross and redirected the ball towards goal, but it was a comfortable stop for Tom Allsopp.
It was then the Blues’ shot-stopper’s turn to display some heroics. Allsop made an incredible succession of clinical saves – first to deny Ryan Beswick from a dipping free kick, then to deny Webb in a one-on-one situation, and finally to deny Reco Fyfe and Goodson a double effort on goal with less than 20 minutes left to play.
With 10 minutes remaining, Loughlan’s in-swinging corner almost caught Allsopp off guard as it swerved towards goal, but instead smashed the crossbar and bounced out of play.
Ryan Campbell-Gordon and Danny Gordon both chased back late on and registered some unbelievable last-ditch tackles to maintain the Blues’ one goal advantage.
Although, in heartbreaking fashion, it was Webb in stoppage time that climbed highest and thumped a header into the ground before seeing it bounce into the top left corner and ultimately securing a point on the road for The Reds.
