Ben Hunter and Adam Mills gave the Suds a two-goal advantage leading up to half-time, however, Burton Albion loanee Tom Hewlett halved the visitors advantage in first half stoppage time.

The Blues seemed proactive at the start of the second half, but within the space of ten minutes, Casey Johnson was shown his marching orders for a late challenge on Malachi Napa which ultimately condemned United to defeat.

Napa then went on to score twice, before Hunter secured his brace and Romario Dunne netted late on to confirm victory for the Suffolk-based side.

The Opposition –

Stamford currently sit in eighth after 16 matches played with seven victories, five draws and four defeats in the league so far this season.

In the Daniels previous fixture, they overcame fellow high-flyers Hitchin Town away from home in narrow a fashion – a 2-1 victory on the road.

Lee Shaw and Tom Siddons gave Stamford a two-goal lead heading into half-time, and despite an early second half goal from Layne Eadie, it could not quite ignite a comeback for the hosts last weekend.

The Daniels will of course aim to carry all that momentum into their game against the Blues at Grange Park this weekend as they push for the play-off places.

Previous Meeting’s –

In recent history, both sides have been separated by the level of competition, as the Daniels had competed at Step Four since 1998, after winning the United Counties League Premier Division title the season prior.

Both the Blues and the Daniels reached the Southern Football League Premier Central after being promoted from both the Northern Premier League East Division and the Midlands division at the end of the 2022/23 season.

The experience thus far at step three has been different for both sides, but when the two sides meet on Saturday, it will be the first meeting between the two for 49 years.

The two sides last met in an FA Trophy Second Round Qualifying match back in the 1973/74 season where the Daniels beat the Blues 3-1 at the home of the Lincolnshire side.

Prior to that cup fixture, United and Stamford both competed in the Midland Football league together from 1961 to 1972 where the two sides met on numerous occasions before the almost 50-year separation.

This will therefore be the Daniels first visit to Grange Park in a very long time, so an enthralling and competitive match is to be expected this weekend at the home of the Blues.
