Long Eaton United return to Pitching In Northern Premier League action on Boxing Day as they face Sheffield FC in the East Division.
The Blues will aim for a return to winning ways after a 3-0 defeat to Buxton in the County Cup ended a four-match win streak last Tuesday.
Manager's Quotes:
Ahead of the Boxing Day clash, first team manager Ian Deakin was looking forward to the return to league action. "We were on the back of a good run of form before we had a couple of games called off due to the weather," Deakin said: "so we’re looking forward to getting back into it."
Looking back at the defeat to Buxton in the quarter-final of the Cawarden Derbyshire Senior Challenge Cup, Deakin analysed the positives of the match. "We saw it a few years ago through covid, you can train and train as much as you want but you can’t replicate games of football, so I was quite keen for the game to go ahead on Tuesday night," Deakin added: "I think it was important we did that and got 90-minutes into most of the players legs and I can take a lot of positives away from the second half performance in terms of the grit and desire."
The Opposition:
Sheffield FC currently sit in ninth place, level on points with Long Eaton United but with two games in hand on The Blues.
This afternoon's hosts have not played a league fixture in 23 days due to recent postponements.
In their last match against Grantham Town on the 3rd December, Sheffield FC won 2-3 courtesy of a late-winner from Nathan Modest, his fifth goal contribution of the season.
Connor Cutts also scored in that win over Grantham, the midfielder is currently the clubs top goalscorer this season with nine goals in 16 games.
