The Blues begin their inaugural season in the Pitching In Northern Premier League with a trip to Bridlington Town on Saturday.
It is the first time that Long Eaton United have competed at step four of the National League System in the club’s history and they will begin their league season against old Northern Counties League East Division opponents Bridlington Town.
The Blues last visited Queensgate to face The Seasiders in the 2013/14 season. The Blues won the match 2-1 with a brace from Jermaine Palmer securing the victory.
If you look even further back to April 2010, current first-team coach Adam Campbell scored a late equaliser at Queensgate.
The Opposition.
Our hosts began their season last weekend with a comfortable 3-1 win against Whitley Bay in the Extra Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup. Bridlington first got on the scoresheet with an own goal and Jack Yates marked his debut for the club with a goal before Lewis Dennison sent The Seasiders through to the next round of the cup with the team’s third goal of the match.
Brid have competed in the NPL East Division since its formation in 2020 and made sure they avoided relegation last season with a win against Dunston on the final day.
The Manager’s Quotes
“We are raring to go in the league,” Ian Deakin said after a 3-0 win against Sherwood Colliery in an FA Cup replay.
“It is what we played for last season, to get promoted, visit new places, play new teams and experience new things. Places that I have never been to as a player.
“We are really looking forward to it and I think it was important that we got a result on Tuesday.
“I was pleased with the way we played, Sam Wilson only had one shot to save really. Apart from that, [Sherwood Colliery] were shooting from 25/30-yards out and didn’t really create much. We limited them, it was that lads’ discipline that did that.
“ [We are] Really looking forward to the game on Saturday, the games come thick and fast now. These lads have got to look after themselves off the pitch now and be professional.
“There’s a lot of travelling and it takes its toll on your body, I know, I have done it. But they will be ready to go, that is the beauty of having a strong squad.”
Analysing the squad, Deakin added: “You have to remember that we have Romaine [Graham] and Tyreece [Robinson] coming back from injury and Mitchell Robinson, who has unfortunately done his ACL.
“So we are missing three big players for us, but Tom [Marshall] slotted in really well at the back which shows the depth that we have.”
