Clark signed for Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United - his boyhood club where he made close to 400 appearances - in 1975 on a free transfer.

The full-back was ever-present in his two years playing for Brian Clough's First Division-winning side, which culminated in a European Cup triumph in his final appearance for The Reds in 1979.

Following his playing career, Clark went on to manage Leyton Orient for eight years before returning to the City Ground to manage Forest in 1993, succeeding Clough, the manager that signed him as a player.

After relegation in Clough's final season as manager, Clark guided Forest back to the Premier League at the first time of asking with a second-place finish in Division One.
