The Blues are six points clear of The Moatmen after a 4-0 win on our travels to Pinchbeck United last weekend. Kam Campbell opened the scoring before Alex Marshall made it two-nil. In the second half, Jamie Walker extended the lead before substitute Ben Hutchinson headed home his fifth goal of the season on the cusp of full-time.
Meanwhile, Gresley extended their unbeaten run in the league to 20 matches with a 3-1 win away to Eastwood Community. United Counties League top goalscorer Steve Hart scored a second consecutive hat-trick to seal the victory.
Hart has scored 25 league goals so far this season from 24 appearances and has proved to be a threat from set pieces.
The last time the sides met at the Moat Ground was in September 2020 when the Blues won 5-1. That afternoon Jamie Walker scored a brace along with goals from Romaine Graham, Keiran Walker and Alex Marshall. Daniel Munday scored the only goal of the match for the home side.
Managers Quotes:
Reflecting on last weekend’s result, Ian Deakin said: “[Last Saturday] was another consecutive clean sheet, that was pleasing. We are keeping clean sheets and defending well.
“For 90 minutes [Pinchbeck United] had a go, and when you haven’t lost a match, you have a target on your back. These lads have to be at 100% every week and they will be.
“For me, first versus second is always going to be a good game,” Deakin said: “we are really looking forward to it.”
