With points dropped on Boxing Day and New Years, Long Eaton United will hope to recover the form that they took into the festive period.
The opposition:
Grantham Town are 18th in the Northern Premier League East Division, with 18 points from 20 matches played. Although, as we have seen many times this season so far, it only takes one or two results to shuffle up the table — something The Gingerbread’s will bear in mind as they take on The Blues, with six points and five places separating the sides.
Without a win in 12 games, Matt Chatfield’s side have had to settle for a draw in three of their last six league fixtures.
Grantham showcased a glimpse of what they are capable of on boxing day with two late goals against Lincoln United to salvage a point at home. Football League veteran full-back Matt Tootle scored an outstanding goal to reduce the deficit and Brad Munns 90th minute equaliser provided them with a crucial point.
Defeat on New Years day at the hands of league leaders Worksop Town left Grantham disappointed. Despite what the scoreline may suggest, The Gingerbreads had a promising start to the match and managed to win seven corners in the first-half alone but ultimately could not make it count as Worksop picked up a club record 19th consecutive win.
Manager’s Quotes:
“Most teams are capable of beating each other and I think you have to just concentrate on what you are doing and try to play your way,” Ian Deakin said: “play with gusto, intensity and hopefully you can go and win the game.
“That’s what these lads do, they give their all out there to be fair but it’s them fine moments, and you have to keep going until the final whistle.”
Deakin analysed the late penalty from Cartlon Town to equalise last week and added: “They are the kind of moments that we have to improve at, so we will be working on that in training, can we stop the cross before it comes in, can we be in a better position to defend that.
“I [will] watch the Veo back and look at that. That’s the beauty of having the Veo Camera. There’s no hiding place for any of the players out there, shape-wise, and tactically I can evaluate myself too.”
