Why I Volunteer - Peter Holmes (LEU Match-day Manager)

The next Volunteer spotlight is being shone on Peter Holmes, our Match-day manager at Grange Park.

Why I volunteer, by Peter Holmes?

Three years ago I retired after 38 years working in the Civil Service. In preparing for retirement I was keen to pursue new opportunities working outdoors, supporting local sport and the environment. I now have three regular volunteer roles: at Long Eaton United, as a Wollaton Park Ranger and working for the Lawn Tennis Association at the Nottingham Open.

So why Long Eaton? I’d started watching Long Eaton United at the end of 2020 (COVID having suspended my visits to Luton Town). Having watched virtually every home game in that amazing 2021-22 championship winning season, it was a perfect fit for me in starting as a volunteer in 2022-23. And what a fabulous first season as a volunteer culminating in those incredible memories at Stockton. Although there have been some ups and downs since then, Brad and the lads delivered some tremendous football last season and there is real excitement about the season ahead.

Volunteering provides such a range of positives: making new friends, gaining work experience, developing new skills and supporting your wellbeing as well as providing vital help and support to an organisation or cause.

And as a volunteer with Long Eaton United you’ll benefit from working with such a supportive and friendly group - from the management, to the players, staff, volunteers and supporters in a fabulous community facility. And you’ll also get free admission, refreshments and a club branded top.

So why not give it a go and come and join our band of volunteers? If you’re interested or want to know more please email me at pete.holmes@ntlworld.com
