We are delighted to announce the signing of versatile central midfielder Andrew Wright as the new club captain ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Most recently of Matlock Town, the 27-year-old joins Brad Munn’s Blues with a wealth of experience, featuring for the likes of Lincoln City, Grantham Town, Coalville Town, Mickleover and Gainsborough Trinity during his career.

With over 175 appearances across step three and step four, Wright will be a vital addition for United as we look to regain our step three status by the end of the 2024/25 season.

“I am extremely pleased that we as a club have managed to get Wrighty in with us for the new season,” First-Team manager Munn said: “He was a credit to himself when he came on loan to us last season, and he played a huge role in the upturn of our results.”

Having made 40 appearances at step three last season - 20 of which came during his loan spell with the Blues, netting three goals in the process, Wright already has an understanding of what is required to play for Munn’s side.

The Blues boss added: “For him to want to buy into the vision and trust in myself, the staff & most importantly the club, shows just how aligned everyone is within.

“He is now vastly experienced and a great character that knows how to win, get the best out of those around him & most importantly lead on and off the pitch.

“It is also for those key reasons that I am delighted to announce him as our new club captain going in to the 2024/25 season. I am sure that he will become a fan favourite, and that everyone will be as happy as we are to secure him for the season.

“Welcome Back, Wrighty.”

Wright and the rest of the Blues can be seen in action on Saturday 6th July during our first pre-season friendly with Hucknall Town away from home.
