Match Preview: Bridlington Town (H)

Rob McNeil9 Jan 2023 - 14:40

The Blues welcome Bridlington Town to Grange Park on Tuesday evening in the reverse fixture of our first league game of the 2022/23 season.

The Blues were due to head into the match after facing Grantham Town at the weekend, although due to a waterlogged pitch, the referee made a late decision to postpone the fixture.

Thus, Ian Deakin’s side welcome the Seasiders to Grange Park after a nine-day rest in which their last match was a 1-1 draw with Carlton Town at the start of the new year.

Both sides fell to 10-men early on, as a tussle between Jamie McGuire and Nat Watson saw the pair dismissed for violent conduct.

Although, it was Jamie Walker who put the Blues ahead on the stroke of half time, and Michael Emery who slotted home a penalty to equalise late on and allow the points to be shared.

The Opposition –

Bridlington currently sit in 13th place with six victories, seven draws and eight defeats so far this season – although, the Seasiders do in fact travel to Derbyshire off the back of two tough league defeats.

The first came at the start of the new year as they were beaten 5-2 away to a flying Grimsby Borough – the Seasiders’ joint top goal scorer Lewis Dennison netted a brace, one of which was a penalty, although a Callum Lovett brace and goals from Thomas Hipwell, Edwin Essel and Adam Drury put the game to bed for Boro.

However, most recently, Brid fell to a 3-1 defeat to a resurgent Lincoln United – this time it was Joe Norton that netted the Seasiders goal, but goals Kallum Smith, Callum Foster and Jake Park once again took the game away from the hosts.

Nonetheless, there is no doubt that Bridlington will be looking to right their recent wrongs and claim all three points as they make the journey down to Grange Park.

Previous Meeting’s –

As mentioned previously, the last time that the two sides met was at the start of the 2022/23 Pitching In Northern Premier League East Division season in the reverse fixture at the Hudgell Solicitor Stadium.

That game finished 1-1 after 90 minutes with Lewis Dennison scoring first early on, but the Blues equalising through Kameron Campbell in the 65th minute, then being reduced to ten-men in the 77th minute, although managing to see the game out.

Prior to this season, Long Eaton United last faced Bridlington Town in the 2013/14 Northern Counties League East Division season, and the Blues were triumphant in that match as a Jermaine Palmer brace carried Long Eaton to a 2-1 victory away from home.

A superb and competitive match is therefore to be expected as the Blues welcome the Seasiders to Grange Park for a Tuesday night match under the lights.
