Long Eaton United sign former Notts County U18s captain Charlie Wilde

We are pleased to announce the signing of centre midfielder Charlie Wilde ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Wilde was released by Notts County in May after spending two years at the club. Outlining his time as captain of the U18s, Wilde said: “Being the captain of a youth team at that level is very difficult, you go through a lot of emotions with the players because you have to try and get the best out of every player, whilst keeping everyone disciplined and working hard.

“I even got to play with Jim O’Brien and that is something that a lot of youth team players will take with them throughout their career. He was a very hard-working player who looked after himself and us, so I think I can take that with me into the MFL.”

The 18-year-old previously played for Long Eaton at youth level before he moved on to play for Nottingham Forest U14s. Wilde said: “I played for Long Eaton back when I was 11/12 years old, so I have a lot of memories at the club.

“The facilities have changed massively since I left; the new 4G is high quality, the grass pitch is getting done up which will be nice for the start of the season and the facilities are such a high standard for the league that we are in.”

Wilde went out on loan to South Normanton Athletic in the MFL last season and starred in their impressive 2-1 victory over Northern Premier League side Matlock Town in the Derbyshire Senior Cup.

Experience and talent were among some of the main reasons The Blues manager, Ian Deakin, decided to bring Wilde in. He said: “I am delighted that we have got Charlie at Long Eaton. He is a player that I have seen play for Notts County and captain their youth team numerous times. He has really impressed me whenever I have seen him play and he will add even more quality to an already strong squad.

“There were lots of clubs trying to secure his services after leaving Notts County last week and we are delighted to get our man.”

With that experience in mind, Wilde added: “I played on loan in the league last season, I went on loan to a couple of clubs and the league is a solid level to play at.

“Long Eaton is going places and that’s all I wanted to do, I wanted to be back in Long Eaton playing for them. I think I will need a bit of time to get into it, maybe a couple of games, but after that I think I will have got to grips with it and I will be able to start performing.”
