JAMIE WALKER DEPARTS

JAMIE WALKER DEPARTS

Rob McNeil19 May 2023 - 15:52

Jamie Walker has joined National League North and fellow Derbyshire-based side Alfreton Town ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The attacking midfielder makes the move to the Impact Arena after an incredible three seasons at the club where he was an integral part of the squad that achieved back-to-back promotions.

A fan favourite at Grange Park, Walker wrote his name into Long Eaton United folklore when he scored both winning penalties in the Semi-Final and Final of the Step Four play-offs.

Scoring 24 goals and providing 13 assists, Walker finished the season as the club’s top goalscorer and was voted supporters’ player of the season.

In his second spell with the Blues, the winger reached 54 goals scored for the club in an impressive 114 appearances.

First joining Long Eaton from Carlton Town in the 2015-16 Midland Football League season, the tricky winger scored twice in 23 starts before signing for Basford United the following season.

A move to Ilkeston Town in 2017 proved to be successful as Walker netted 41 goals across two seasons and the Robins achieved back-to-back promotions, moving them from Step Six to Step Four.

The free-scoring season at Ilson earned Walker a return to Step Three side Basford United - although a lack of game time saw Walker move back to the Midland Football League with Newark Flowserve in 2020.

Walker made his return to Grange Park the following season, linking up with his former manager Ian Deakin. With the Midland Football League season curtailed by the Covid-19 pandemic, Walker starred in the club’s record-breaking FA Vase run. His five assists and one goal helped Long Eaton to the Quarter Finals of the competition for the first time in the clubs’ history.

The following season the Blues were crowned champions of the United Counties Football League with Walker scoring 20 goals and providing 17 assists.

As one of the more experienced players in the squad, Walker led by example as the club made their debut in the Northern Premier League East Division. A tough start to the 2022-23 season was soon remedied as Walker found form, scoring 18 goals in the second half of the season to lift the Blues into the play-off spots.

The goal scoring hero then bagged a brace in the semi-final against Hebburn and scoring the winning penalty, before subsequently netting the winning penalty in the final against Stockton Town too.

After all of Jamie’s commitment and desire to help the club, everyone associated with Long Eaton United would like to wish Jamie all the best in his move to Alfreton Town and we thank him for his immense contributions across three historical seasons at Grange Park.
