Blues hit five to tune up for Vase clash

Blues hit five to tune up for Vase clash

Ritchie Woods18 Nov 2011 - 11:16

LONG Eaton United manager Craig Weston welcomed his side's midweek Derbyshire Senior Cup tie, as they boosted their confidence by sticking five first-half goals past beleaguered Glapwell, Paul Gamble helping himself to a hat-trick.

The Blues were able to ease off in the second half, the game finishing 5-0, and the result puts them in good heart for tomorrow's FA Vase second round tie at home to Cambridgeshire side St Ives Town.

"I don't know much about them but I've had a look at how they're doing and we're ready for a tough game," said Weston.

"The senior cup tie was just what we needed to pick ourselves up after losing 1-0 to Staveley Welfare last week.

"None of our other sides have games, so I'm hoping a lot will come along and there's a good atmosphere."

Although Mick Allsop will miss out and Nathan Parker is a doubt, Weston has been boosted by the return to full fitness of exciting young talent Will Mellors-Blair.

NOTE: Dean Whiley was also on the scoresheet against Glapwell. Paul Gamble scored twice, not three times.
