Rolls Royce Leisure (1) v Long Eaton United A (2) - 20/02/2010
In one of the few games to survive the freezing weather conditions, Long Eaton travelled away again, this time to Rolls Royce Leisure, full of confidence having beaten Cotgrave Colts the previous week.
The away side started slowly and came under some early pressure from Rolls Royce. However, Matty and Tomas at the back, supported by Zak, remained strong and Jack's goal was rarely seriously threatened.
Long Eaton gradually took control of the game with Oscar and Jarrett becoming increasingly influential and Benedict upfront running for every ball and making life difficult for the home defence.
Benedict was rewarded for his hard work when, mid-way through the half, he cut inside, beat the defender and hit a great effort beyond the Rolls Royce keeper.
Despite further pressure from the away side the score remained 0-1 at half time.
Lily, Finlay and Jared came on in the second half and Jack moved back into mid-field.
As the temperature rose, the pitch started to cut up badly and the game became scrappy until quality was resumed when Oscar, coming in from the left, rounded the keeper and scored an excellent goal to put Long Eaton 2 up.
But, the away side were not allowed to relax as Rolls Royce continued to press, encouraged by a deflected goal which brought the score back to 1-2.
Despite the pressure, Long Eaton continued to play with confidence, passing the ball well and ran out deserved 2 one winners - remaining unbeaten in 2010.
