Long Eaton United (1) v Dunkirk Colts Red (3) - 07/11/2009
The U9's took on a strong Dunkirk side, who had won all bar one of their previous games in the YEL Division 1.
Long Eaton were highly competitive in an outstanding first half performance, going in all square at 0-0 having had probably the better chances to take the lead in the first half.
The midfield trio of Jarrett, Oscar and Zak worked exceptionally hard in supporting Benedict in attack and Lily and Matty in defence against possibly the most physical side played against this season so far. As the second half progressed, Dunkirk benefited from having a larger squad and took a 2-0 lead, despite some great goal-keeping from Jack.
However, showing great character, Long Eaton continued to believe they could get back into the game and a great move was rounded off by Zak scoring at the far post to leave the result in doubt until the last kick of the game, when Dunkirk scored there third.
Next week's game away to Attenborough should be a great match, with Attenborough one point above Long Eaton but having played a game more.
