U11's Match Report: Long Eaton United A v Arnold Town Maroon
5th October, 2008 Long Eaton United A 1 v 3 Arnold Town Maroon Starting Line-Up: Nathan (Goal Keeper) George (Sweeper) Ashley, Connor & Fin (Defence) Ben (C), Leon & Euan (Midfield) Henry (Left Wing/midfield) Samuel (Right Wing/midfield) Owen (Striker) Kyle, Asa (Subs) Long Eaton’s second home match of the season was against table leaders Arnold Town. The game kicked-off with Long Eaton much the better side, really taking the game to Arnold, with most of the play in Arnolds half of the pitch. Samuel was having a lot of success down the right wing and it was on one of those determined runs of his that brought the opening goal. On eight minutes, George set Samuel away with one of his monstrous throws, which Samuel crossed in for Owen to slot in with his left boot. At this point you thought Long Eaton could go on and score more but the goal appeared to wake Arnold up and they started to press, forcing Long Eaton to defend in numbers deep in their own half. On eleven minutes Arnold scored the equaliser. The game continued with some good play from both teams, with Arnold missing some half chances. Then on eighteen minutes they took the lead with a well headed goal. When the halftime whistle was blown, it was met with an encouraging cheer from the supporters who had played their part in a positive first half. Half time Score 1 v 2. The second half started and with only a minute on the clock Arnold scored. This was a blow for Long Eaton but they rolled up their sleeves and got on with the job. They were defending well and creating one or two chances without getting the break they needed. Euan came close with a snap shot that just went the wrong side of the post. Final Score 1 v 3. In summary, following recent results, this was a much improved team performance with a lot of positives to take from the game. The team adapted well to a new system of play introduced by the management and George had a tremendous game playing in the sweeper’s position. Many thanks to the ref who had an excellent game and a big thank you to both sets of supporters who all stood together cheering the players on.
