The home fixture this week was against Netherfield, another team who had come up with Long Eaton at the end of last season. The Long Eaton team has improved with each game and today they were looking for another good performance and a win to add to their win from the previous week. The first half was a hard fought affair between two determined teams and the majority of play was in the Netherfield half. Netherfield rarely troubled the Long Eaton defense who looked comfortable all game. Long Eaton were playing some attractive football, passing the ball around well and when they didn’t have the ball, they fought to get it. Long Eaton created some great chances but frustratingly could not turn them in to goals. Half time Score 0 v 0. The second half was much the same as the first, with Long Eaton the stronger team but not able to get the breakthrough. It was turning into an exciting, nerve racking match for the managers and supporters alike and if the ref had blown his whistle early then they may have been happy to take a point each. Then with just three minutes left to play, Long Eaton finally got their reward for all their hard work, Samuel battled through a crowd of players and somehow managed to pass the ball through to Owen, who kept his cool to calmly slot the ball into the net from a tight angle. Final Score 1 v 0. In summary, another well deserved win against a tough Netherfield team. As the boys continue to settle into their positions, they are improving with each game and with that they are gaining in confidence that now shows in their play. Well done boys. Many thanks to both sets of supporters and the ref you had a great game.
