With this is mind, the fixture away to Aslockton was always going to be an interesting one for a number of reasons. Aslockton, who came up from Division 2 with Long Eaton at the end of last season, had suffered two defeats to Long Eaton and therefore would be out for revenge. Long Eaton have been steadily improving and were looking for their first win of the season and were also looking at this fixture as a way of measuring how far they had come, considering the quality of the teams played and the relatively short time in this division. The weather conditions were perfect as the game kicked-off and Long Eaton were in no mood to hang around. After some determined play and with only two minutes on the clock, Long Eaton scored when Owen put Samuel through, catching Aslockton flat footed, Samuel ran on and blasted the ball from distance over the keepers head. What a start! Aslockton responded with some good play of their own but without really troubling the Long Eaton team, who were playing with confidence. The game continued with both teams working hard, battling to get control. It was Long Eaton who were producing the better chances with Owen showing great vision, playing some accurate balls through for Samuel who was unlucky not to add to his first goal. With a couple of minutes to go before half time, Aslockton brought the score level, only to see Long Eaton retake the lead when the ball was played through and it was Euan who was on to it in a flash, running through and calmly sliding the ball past the keeper. Half time Score 1 v 2. The second half started where it left off, both teams determined to get something out of the game.
