Long Eaton’s fight wasn’t enough

Long Eaton first team fall to Sheffield United
Stuart Wilson and Amy Buxton were forced into three changes on their first match day together with Portia Badach and Cala Thornton both ill and Cara Newton struggling with a back problem.
The girls fought from the off and created some big chances Jade Arber’s rocket shot just going over the crossbar and Chloe Dixon just dragging a shot wide all in the first 10 minutes really put Sheffield United on the back foot.
Sheffield Boss Carla Ward made three changes to the team that started against Radcliffe with experienced pair Nat Froggatt and Jorden Spurr, plus new signing Georgia Stevens, brought in.
Sheffield United slowly got going and new signing Stevens was soon involved down United's left flank.
Sheffield United then piled on the pressure but the Long Eaton defence stood tall, with Lia Kellogg making a couple of good saves also.
Finally Long Eaton we’re broken down though after 42 minutes with Stevens squaring to Nat Shaw for an easy tap in. Sheffield United finished the half strongly and a second followed before the interval, the central defensive pair of Marshall and Froggatt caused problems and the latter doubled the lead.
Long Eaton were still very much in the game and pulled a goal back 19 minutes into the second half after a defensive mix-up gifted an open net for Viki Adams to smash the ball into. 2-1 GAME ON!
The two-goal margin was restored only a minute later when Shaw drilled a shot home from an acute angle.
Long Eaton then worked hard to try and get back into the game with Elle Rowson making some strong tackles in the middle and playing some great balls through to Viki Adams up front.
Sheffield United’s midfield found a rare gap in the Long Eaton defence and played a good through ball to the right winger who placed a shot in the bottom corner.
Overall the score line didn’t reflect the hard work of Long Eaton but 4-1 it finished.
