Tom earned a professional contract through Burton Albion Academy in the summer of 2020.

A quick and clinical striker, Tom was a regular scorer for the Young Brewers and quickly made his professional debut as a substitute in the EFL Trophy in September 2020 against Peterborough United.

Injury curtailed his 2020/21 season, but he has since gained valuable experience on loan at many semi-pro clubs whilst trying to make his way back into the Brewers' first-team squad.

Hewlett joined the Blues on loan from Burton Albion during the 2023/24 season.
