The Glassboys led by just one goal at the break through Alfie Steward, but two second half goals from Dexter Walters and Niall Flint put the game beyond reach of the Blues.
Blues’ management duo opted to make three changes from the starting side that fell to defeat at the weekend – Riece Bertram made a return to defence; Jamie Hanson began in midfield and Marley Fearon made his first start up front since returning from injury.
Stourbridge began the feistier of the two sides in the opening moments of the match, as Jack Fletcher almost troubled Ross Durrant in between the sticks in just the second minute.
However, in the 5th minute, the Blues did have a chance of their own through Joe Nyahwema. Bertram pinged a ball over the Stourbridge defence for Nyahwema to run onto, in which he did, before cutting inside at pace and striking on a tight angle, although it was a strong stop by Charles Price.
Charlie Dowd then came close for the hosts when he fizzed a half volley from the edge of the Blues’ box, but it was saved well by Durrant.
Although, mid-way through the first half Steward did put the hosts ahead. Quick reactions allowed the forward to latch onto a low cross with a deft flick past Durrant from close.
Durrant denied the hosts once again in the 35th minute after Fletcher drove down the left and drilled a shot towards the far post, but the Blues’ shot stopper reacted well with a diving stop.
On the stroke of half time, Alex Prosser had one last opportunity for Stourbridge with a speculative strike from around 25 yards out, however, Durrant got behind the shot and denied the midfielder.
The first half ended somewhat end-to-end, and the second half began in similar vein.
Walters came close when he hit a curled effort towards the top right from the left-hand side, although the strike did not trouble Durrant.
Callum Cocks would have wished to have done more with his low whipped free kick from the edge of the Stourbridge box in the 55th minute, as just moments later, the hosts counter attacked and doubled their advantage through a Walters strike from close.
Another clear-cut chance did not fall for either side until 20 minutes later – Jack Rogers drove down the right in counterattacking fashion and then looked for James Spruce with a low driven cross which was dealt with by the diving head of Flint.
Minutes later, Flint found himself up the other end of the pitch and inside the Blues’ box ready for a Brendon Daniels cross – the full back attacked the cross and found the back of the net with a neat finish.
Rogers had a chance to reduce the deficit with a strike on the stroke of full time, but his curled effort was stopped by an outstretched Charles Price and the game ended three-goals-to-nil.
