Stourbridge make their third visit to Grange Park this season, but a first in the league, as the Blues look to return to winning ways on Saturday.

In United’s previous match they narrowly fell to defeat at the hands of league leaders Needham Market away from home.

Bloomfields played host to this league fixture on the 17th of February, and after 90 minutes of competitive football, the match finished 2-1 in favour of the hosts.

The Marketmen took an extremely early lead to kickstart proceedings – Dan Morphew’s half volley after less than a minute played gave Needham Market an advantage heading into half time.

James Spruce then pounced on a defensive error to net an equaliser for the Blues mid-way through the second half, but it was Jamie McGrath that rifled home a rebound strike in the 88th minute to secure all three points for the hosts.

The Opposition –

Stourbridge currently sit in 15th place after 27 games played in the Southern Football League Premier Central this season – with 10 victories, four draws and 13 defeats to their name.

The Glassboys’ previous fixture ended in disappointing home defeat, as Leiston overcame Stourbridge by three-goals-to-one at the War Memorial Athletic Ground.

Jamar Loza gave Leiston the lead after just six minutes, however Stourbridge were quick to respond through Alexander Jones to make the game level at half time.

Although, it was a late Joseph Marsden brace that secured Leiston the victory and all three points away from home.

Thus, Stourbridge will be looking to return to winning ways as they visit Grange Park on Saturday afternoon.

Previous Meeting’s –

Prior to this season, the Blues and the Glassboys had never faced each other in a league or cup competition in our 67-year history.

However, they have competed twice in cup competitions already this season – in early September, Stourbridge made the journey up to Grange Park for an Emirates FA Cup First Round Qualifying tie.

The game finished 1-3 in favour of the visitors due to goals from Luke Benbow, Niall Flint and Alex Prosser – Marley Fearon scored for the Blues early on, but United could not quite hold on to the advantage.

Then, the Glassboys made another journey to Grange Park in October 2023 for an Isuzu FA Trophy Third Round Qualifying tie against the Blues.

Stourbridge were 4-1 victors on that day thanks to goals from Dexter Walters, Darryl Knights and a brace from Luke Benbow – whilst Tom Hewlett netted the consolation for the Blues.

Looking ahead to this weekend’s match against Stourbridge, as well as highlighting key points heading into it, Brad Munn said: “I don’t want to see four losses from the same team in a season, but mainly for us, it’s just understanding how to stay in games longer, even against adversity – which we shown last weekend against Needham Market.

“Everyone has to be at full tilt for us, in every single game that we play, and then we can pick up plenty of results in the later stages. We can see that now more than ever, we aren’t getting rolled over by teams like we were before, and even in games where we concede a few, we always fight back and give ourselves that chance to get something from the game.

“We just need to have that desire to not let the team do the four-fold on us, because not many teams do that in a league season.

“We need to show our quality, stay lively from minute one, and if we do so then I am sure we will get a positive result out of the game.”
