The Crows’ second half press forced the Blues into a 3-0 defeat away at Garden Walk on Saturday afternoon.

Olu Akintunde scored the only goal of the first half to give Royston the lead at the break.

Then, Adam Murray’s headed effort and Damaray Anyadike’s late strike secured victory for the hosts on home soil.

Brad Munn opted to make just two changes from the side that overcame Berkhamsted last weekend – Andrew Wright made his first start in midfield since signing for the club and Cieron Keane made a return to the starting squad after recovering from injury.

The Blues frustratingly fell on the back foot straight out the gates – a mistake from Riece Bertram forced a rash decision with a tug on a Royston shirt inside the Blues’ box which gave the hosts an early penalty.

Akintunde stepped up to take the penalty and slotted it seemlessly into the bottom right, just out of Ross Durrant’s reach.

No chance then fell for either side until the 25th minute, but this time it fell for the Blues. Jack Rogers’ out-swinging cross landed at the feet of Wright who shot but saw his effort blocked in-front of goal and cleared.

Midway through the first half, United had another opportunity, this time through Jamie Hanson – the midfielder stood over a free kick from around 25 yards out and arrowed an effort towards goal, however the power carried the ball just over the bar.

Rogers came so close for the Blues minutes later, after the winger cut in from the left and swung an effort from the edge of the box looking for the far post, although his effort pinged against the woodwork and was then dealt with by the hosts.

On the stroke of half time, Rogers looked dangerous once again as he drove down the left and drilled a cross into the box looking for James Spruce – however, the forward could not quite connect, and the referee subsequently blew for the half time interval.

At the start of the second half, the Blues looked to continue with the press when Hanson fired a ball over the top and onto the run of Hewlett, however the on-loan forward could not quite trouble Louis Chadwick.

James Brighton had a chance for the hosts in the 60th minute when he drove from the half-way line on to the edge of the Blues’ box and fired towards goal, however the strike did not trouble Durrant.

Then, mid way through the second half, and slightly against the run of play, Royston made it two. Murray’s headed effort simply looped into the back of the net following a whipped cross.

Just ten minutes later, Anyadike drove in from the right following a mistake from Bertram and once he made his way into the box, the winger let fire and drove a strike under the diving Durrant to secure the hosts’ third.

The Crows looked to put the game to bed late on as they pressed the Blues until the final whistle, but no more followed, and the game ended three-goals-to-nil in favour of the hosts.
