Match Preview: Royston Town (A)

This weekend we travel to Garden Walk and face Royston Town in a relegation zone clash.

Long Eaton United go into the match off the back of a win against Berkhamsted at Grange Park ending an 11-match run winless run.

James Spruce scored his second of the season with what turned out to be the winner after a penalty save from Ross Durrant in the 88th minute.

Meanwhile, Royston go into the match 12 points ahead of The Blues but without a win in their last eight league matches following a 3-1 loss to Redditch in their last outing.

Manager’s quotes:

“The performance level was nowhere near where we usually are last saturday” first-team manager Brad Munn said: “but at the same time we got the result.

“If we can up our performance level and start putting the results together as well – who knows what can happen but for us the squad is looking healthy, training is looking sharp and everyone’s got a smile on their face, which is the main thing.”

Looking back at how the win over Berkhamsted on Saturday lifted the squad, Munn added: “This weekend’s done wonders for some of the young boys to get that winning feeling.”

The opposition:

Last time the sides met in August, Royston Town beat The Blues 1-3 at Grange Park, a result that sparked a four-match win streak and moved them up to fifth place in the league.

However, since then The Crows have won just one match, picked up six points and fell down to 19th place in the Southern Football League Central Division.

Matt Bateman led the scoring charts for The Crows with four contributions up until his departure to Hertfordshire rivals Berkhamsted in early November.

Since then Chris Watters and Steve Castle have bolstered their team by signing winger Demaray Anyadike from Isthmian League North side Walthamstow FC where he was supporters player of the season.
