The Blues were condemned to a heavy defeat in Cambridgeshire as St Ives secured a 5-0 home victory on Saturday afternoon.

Jonny Edwards, Brandon Njoku and Jordan Williams all scored in the first half to give St Ives a comfortable advantage at the break.

Then, Edwards secured his brace with a second half strike before substitute Khris Oti scored late to make it five for the hosts.

Brad Munn – in his first game as sole manager – made just one change to the side that lost 3-2 last weekend – Casey Johnson returned from suspension and started ahead of George Atwal in midfield.

With just two minutes on the clock, St Ives opened the scoring through Edwards. The striker was simply able to latch onto a deep cross with a first-time volley from close range to give the hosts an advantage.

Minutes later, Edwards thought he had secured his and the Ives’ second, but the linesman adjudged the forward to be in an offside position after he tucked home a rebound effort.

In the 12th minute, however, the hosts did manage to extend their advantage through Njoku – the winger drove down the wing before he cut inside and struck from range, beating Ross Durrant with an excellent effort.

Durrant had to be alert thereafter as he was forced into two fantastic diving saves to deny the Ives a third and fourth before the 20-minute mark.

Seven minutes later, the Long Eaton shot stopper was forced into action once again as he denied Edwards and Njoku with some unbelievable reaction saves from close.

Although, just shy of the half hour mark, Williams did secure the hosts’ third of the match with a rebound effort that he hammered home after Njoku’s effort was initially saved by Durrant.

The final chance of the first half once again fell to the hosts, as Edwards found himself in acres of space in the box and he chose to shoot, but this time Hanson through his body in the way to stop the ball on the line and eventually clear it.

It was a very one sided first half, but the Blues were hoping to come out with more intent in the second half.

Jack Rogers and Joe Nyahwema looked to create several chances down the wings with fantastic crosses, but ultimately no Blues head could connect with the ball inside the box.

However, it was in-fact the Ives that secured their fourth of the match next, this time in the 54th minute through clinical forward Edwards. A pin-point cross was met by the forward who struck well past the diving Durrant.

Just over 10 minutes later, St Ives had another big chance through Njoku, when the winger rounded a committed Durrant and struck low towards goal, but Nick Aretzis slid to clear the ball off the line and clear the danger.

Greg Kaziboni then had a huge opportunity for the hosts as he found himself through on goal, but once again Durrant displayed his incredible goalkeeping skills by pulling off a superb diving stop.

A quiet ten minutes then followed for both sides, but in the 78th minute, Ives’ substitute Oti did net the hosts fifth of the afternoon – great passing play between the opposition to get into the Blues’ box was finished brilliantly by the sliding substitute to tuck home at Durrant’s near post.

The Blues did have two half chances late on through Rogers’ and James Spruce’s long-range efforts, but this time Brearey was on hand to maintain the hosts’ clean sheet.

But of course, it was Durrant late on to deny the hosts a sixth once again with another quick reaction stop, which meant the game finished five-goals-to-nil in favour of the Ives.
