Match Preview: AFC Sudbury (H)
The Blues are back at Grange Park this weekend after almost three weeks away as we welcome AFC Sudbury for a 3pm KO.
United’s previous match ended in a narrow 2-0 defeat over league high-flyers AFC Telford United at the New Bucks Head Stadium last Saturday.
Besides an extremely positive and combative display from the Blues, Orrin Pendley’s header midway through the second half, and Tré Mitford’s stoppage time doubler was enough to carry the hosts to victory.
The Opposition –
AFC Sudbury currently sit in the drop zone of the Southern Football League Premier Central like the Blues, but the visitors to Grange Park are three places higher with two wins, five draws and seven defeats this season.
In the Yellows’ previous outing, they recorded their second league victory of the 2023/24 season as they beat Bromsgrove Sporting by two-goals-to-nil on home soil.
Joe Neal netted either side of half time to secure his brace and Sudbury’s victory over a mid-table Bromsgrove Sporting.
Thus, the visitors will of course be looking to carry that victorious momentum into Grange Park this weekend.
Previous Meeting’s –
Given the 140+ mile distance between the two clubs, as well as the difference in competitive steps, United and Sudbury had never competed in the same league prior to this season.
The Blues and the Yellows have in fact never faced each other in a cup competition either, so this will be the first meeting between the two sides and Sudbury’s first visit to Grange Park in history.
An enthralling and end-to-end game at the home of the Blues is to be expected, as both sides aim to climb out the relegation zone.
