Coalville Town picked up from where they left off at the weekend and put on another clinical performance against The Blues.

Last season’s runners-up Coalville were ahead after 11 minutes played – Terrell Pennant put away the visitors first goal of the match. Then, efforts from Luke Shaw and Tom McGlinchey gave The Ravens a three-goal lead as they headed into the break.

In the second half Pennant notched his second of the match before substitute Jake Hutchings headed home the fifth. In stoppage time McGlinchey scored his second of the match and wrapped up a ruthless performance from the visiting team.

After two weeks without a match, Lewis McGugan and Brad Munn made wholesale changes. Among the reshuffle club captain Ross Durrant returned from a toe injury to reclaim the number one shirt while Larell King started at right back after a spell on the sidelines.

Coalville Town looked dangerous from the first whistle and it did not take them long to make their strong start the match count. Pennant cut in from the right and scored the first goal of the match in the 11th minute with an effort that took a horrible deflection off of Nathan Whitehead before it crept in at the near post.

In search of his second, Pennant dribbled his way into the box again but this time his strike was blocked and cleared by Long Eaton United centre-half Ed Cook.

After 24 minutes played the visitors doubled their lead when Shaw struck a sweet volley from inside the box which smashed into the roof of the net to make it two.

At the other end of the pitch Jack Rogers took matters into his own hands and dribbled past two Coalville midfielders before Ash Carter scythed him down and gave away a free-kick in a dangerous position. Nathan Whitehead stepped up to take the set piece, beat the wall but was unfortunately denied by the woodwork.

McGlinchey scored the third in superb style. The winger took the ball around Durrant and slotted it into an empty net to further extend Coalville’s advantage in the 34th minute.

Jack Rogers had a chance to reduce the deficit with a volley inside the box, the attacking midfielder got plenty of power behind the shot but could not hit the target from a very tight angle.

As the first-half came to a close Whitehead was denied by the woodwork yet again. This time from a corner kick, the defender’s header rebounded off the post and the assistant referee raised his flag for offside before Hewlett could strike on the follow up.

After the restart The Blues fought hard to make a comeback but could not find a way to trouble Paul White in the Coalville goal despite some attacking substitutions from the bench.

In the 74th minute Coalville skipper Joe Doyle-Charles saw the run of Pennant and played a pass through to the winger who hammered the ball into the top corner to bag his brace and score the visitors fourth.

Moments later, second-half substitute Hutchings headed a corner ball past Durrant to make it five and, with seconds left in the match, McGlinchey netted his second and Coalville's sixth.
