Match Preview – Coalville Town (H)

Long Eaton United return to league action on Tuesday evening with the visit of Leicestershire-based Coalville Town to Grange Park.

The Blues’ previous fixture was played on Saturday 7th October, and it was an Isuzu FA Trophy Third Round Qualifying tie against Stourbridge FC on home soil.

The Glassboys walked away from Grange Park with a 4-1 victory that saw the Blues exit the cup competition and allowed Stourbridge to progress.

Luke Benbow gave the visitors an early lead, before Burton Albion loanee Tom Hewlett levelled the scoreline prior to the half time whistle.

Although, it was a second half to forget for the Blues, as Dexter Walters and Darryl Knights both netted, before Benbow secured his brace to secure Stourbridge a comfortable victory.

The Opposition –

Coalville currently sit 8th in the Southern Football League Premier Central table after 12 games played with six wins and six defeats so far this season.

In their last outing, The Ravens put on a completely dominant display to beat Berkhamsted 9-0 in one of just five games that went ahead last weekend despite weather disruption.

A Tim Berridge hat-trick, braces from both Luke Shaw and Terrell Pennant, and single goals from Tom McGlinchey and Alex Dean, all carried Coalville to a ridiculous victory at the Mander Cruickshank Solicitors Stadium.

Thus, the visitors to Grange Park will look to carry that momentum into Tuesday evening’s match as they look to push higher up the table this season.

Previous Meeting’s –

United and Coalville had never featured in the same league prior to this season despite being less than 30 miles apart.

Thus, this will be the first league meeting between the two sides in both clubs’ strong and triumphant histories.

However, the Blues and the Ravens have had one competitive fixture prior to the 2023/24 season, and it came in September 2013 – an FA Cup First Round Qualifying match at the home of Coalville Town.

With just 145 supporters in attendance, the Ravens were crowned 3-2 victors with goals from Jamie McAteer, Cameron Stuart and Kevin Charley.

Ross Parker and Matt Savage netted the Blues’ goals on that day, but the two goals were not quite enough to carry United through to the next stage of the 2013/14 cup competition.

Card payments are preferred and accepted at Grange Park, although cash payments are still accepted.

Car Parking is available at the ground and is free, but is of course subject to availability, although ample parking is available in the surrounding area.
